Researcher, Zurlaubiana
About
The Zurlaubiana is a research project at the Aargau cantonal Library in Aarau, Switzerland. This project aims to edit and document large parts of the Zurlauben family archive.
Members of the Zurlauben family first moved to Zug in the second half of the 15th century. Only a few generations later, the family held a key position among the social elites of the town. Its descendants served as magistrates, abbots and abbesses, mercenaries and soldiers in high ranks.
The Zurlauben family archive contains a private library of 8'000 volumes and over 50'000 documents dating from the 16th to the 18th century. Its family documents, collections of private letters, lists of mercenaries in France, bills and blueprints of historic works shed a unique light on the urban history and culture of central Switzerland in the early modern period.
